High Court Approves Settlement of Mediators Award of €990,000 for Teenager Injured by Swine Flu Vaccine
The High Court on the 3rd March 2021 approved of the settlement and entered Judgement in favour of Ben Blackwell a 16 year old boy in the sum of €990,000 and costs against The Minister for Health and Children, The Health Service Executive and Glaxosmithkline Biologicals SA (GSK).
The award was to provide compensation for injuries caused to the Plaintiff (Narcolepsy and Cataplexy) as a consequence of receiving the Swine Flu Vaccine (Pandemrix by GSK) in February 2010. The award paved the way for potential settlement of an additional approximately 100 other persons injured by the vaccine.
The settlement and award is the second such settlement successfully concluded and is to be welcomed as it brings to an end many years of contentious litigation.
